So there’s a lot of confusion about if you’re truly buying organic, conventionally grown or genetically modified foods (gmo) as supermarket labels can be hard to read at times and even misleading BUT there actually is another method you can use to tell if the food you buy fits into one of those 3 categories. Look at the first digit of the code that is usually right below the bar code.
If the # starts with a 3 or 4 and it should be a 4 digit code it is conventionally grown.
A 5 digit code starting with the #9 means it is organic.
A 5 digit code starting with the number 8 means it is genetically modified.
Food labels are hard enough to decipher nowadays but knowing if your food is GMO based, conventional, or organic is more important now than ever. Try using this simple trick to quickly get the answer you are looking for.
Hope this helps!
